A fine early 19th century French gilt brass carriage clock, by LeRoy et Fils, 6cm circular silvered dial with Roman numerals, secondary alarm dial, ... against an engine turned ground, eight-day alarum movement, striking on a bell, platform escapement signed LeRoy et Fils/Rue de Roi/No.2439, the rear door with five titled closable winding holes, the case fluted throughout, rectangular base, bracket feet, 20cm high, morocco carrying case, 22cm over handle The LeRoy family were making clocks from c. 1730 when Julien LeRoy set up in Parish until the 20th century. Charles LeRoy was clockmaker to Emperor Napoleon, and the company signed LeRoy et Fils from 1823 to 1889, but moved from Rue de Roi to the Palais Royal c. 1870 Read more
