A FINE EAST EUROPEAN WHEEL-LOCK TSCHINKE with octagonal barrel (back-sight missing) heavily swamped at the muzzle, rifled with eight grooves and set with three engraved brass panels, on the breech the engraved maker's initials WS, the lock overlaid with brass finely engraved with scrolls, birds, flowers and foliage involving, on the cock, a bearded profile head, and on the bridle to the cock-spring two pairs of addorsed bird-heads (chain link to mainspring missing), figured walnut full stock inlaid with brass nails, mother-of-pearl, green-stained horn, and brass plaques engraved en suite with the lock, and inlaid with brass wire scrolls on the underside of the butt, iron trigger-guard, brass butt-plate and fore-end cap, and original brass-tipped ramrod, circa 1650 38in. barrel [E.237, S.10
