A fine exhibition quality model of a 7 1/4 inch gauge Great Western Railway Grange Class 4-6-0 locomotive and tender No.6860 'Aberporth Grange', built by David Aitken replicating the original full size locomotive with copper boiler having fittings including scale water gauge with brass protector frame, three scale cab gauges, lever operated sliding firebox doors with chain, safety, blower, lubricator system, brake, clack and blowdown valves, the fine quality cab detail including condensing coil for the hydrostatic lubricator in the roof, regulator connected with lubricator valve, three gauges, drip feed oiler system, driver seats and direction control. Chassis details include twin outside cylinders with valves controlled through Stephenson’s inside valve gear, cylinder drain cocks and associated pipework, lubricator system, hand and steam brake gear, two injectors and whistle, further detail includes fluted connecting rods, sanding gear, fine rivet work, couplings, steps, hand irons and lamp irons with lamps. The tender is of 3500 gallon design with fitted water scoop, fitted hand operated brake gear to axles. The model finished in Great Western green and black lined livery with polished brightwork together with fitted hand rails, steps and lamp irons. Length 254cm. Cab width 41cm. Boiler history: The locomotive has a 'Western Boilers' tested and CE compliant boiler. Further details available from the auctioneers on the auction view days. PLEASE NOTE: All boiler history records and references made in this catalogue are made for guidance only and the auctioneers are not able to convey any guarantees or warrantees as to the safety of the boilers or their present condition. The Great Western Railway (GWR) 6800 Class or Grange Class was a mixed traffic class of 4-6-0 steam locomotive. There were 80 in the class, all built at the Swindon works, using some reconditioned parts from withdrawn 4300 Class locomotives. The entire class was withdrawn from service between 1960 and 1965 and no examples were preserved. However, GWR N0 6880 'Betton Grange', the next Grange that was due to be built originally, is currently being built at Llangollen Railway. Please note: This locomotive has a 'Kingswood Boilers of Bristol' boiler not 'Western Boilers' as has been quoted on the Dreweatts website - printed catalogue is correct
