A FINE LOUIS XV VARI-COLOUR GOLD SNUFF-BOX BY JEAN-FRANCOIS GARAND (FL. 1748-1778), MARKED, PARIS, 1759/1760, WITH THE CHARGE AND DECHARGE MARKS OF ELOY BRICHARD 1756-1762, THE FLANGE STRUCK WITH INVENTORY NO. 1253 AND TWO POST-1838 SMALL GUARANTEE MARKS FOR GOLD oval box, the cover and base chased and engraved in four-colour gold with bouquets of flowers surrounded by trailing flowers and foliage on a horizontally reeded engine-turned ground, the four side panels divided by column pilasters and hung with garlands of flowers, with two butterflies flitting amongst them, within reeded gold borders 2 7/8 in. (72 mm.) wide 4½ oz. (132 gr.)
