A FRENCH EMPIRE SILVER-GILT DISH, COVER AND COPPER-GILT STAND FROM THE BORGHESE SERVICE MARK OF MARTIN-GUILLAUME-BIENNAIS, PARIS, THE DISH 1798-1809, THE COVER 1809-1819, AFTER A DESIGN BY PERCIER AND FONTAINE The dish oval and with anthemion border, the domed cover with an applied frieze of classical figures hung between foliage swags supporting swans, with acanthus bud and openwork foliage finial, the stand conforming and on four winged lion mask and paw feet with two scroll handles, the dish, cover and stand each engraved with a coat-of-arms, the dish marked underneath, the cover marked on border and inside, the stand apparently unmarked, further engraved inside the cover 'Biennais, Oréfevre de S. M t e s l'Imperiales et Royales a Paris' the stand 20 in. (50.8 cm.) wide over handles 156 oz. (4,843 gr.) The arms are those of Borghese for Prince Camillo and Pauline Borghese.
