Beschreibung:

A French gilt brass and painted porcelain mantel clock garniture Vincenti et Cie, Paris, circa 1875 The circular two train eight-day gong striking movement with anchor escapement regulated by disc bob pendulum incorporating Brocot type regulation to suspension, the backplate stamped with VINCENTI & CIE, MEDAILLE D'ARGENT, 1855 over serial number 2369, the rectangular porcelain dial panel with delicate gilt highlighted polychrome floral spray decoration to centre within Arabic numeral chapter ring and with gilt hands over scene of pair of goldfinches perched within conforming blooming foliage into a cream ground, the case with leaf cast finial to the domed porcelain cupola surmount painted with another goldfinch and with dolphin mounts to angles over crenulated cornice and rectangular frame enclosing the dial panel and pair of side panels similarly decorated with blue tit inhabited foliage, on skirt base with stepped ogee top moulding, twin bird cast apron mount and grotesque mask decorated scroll cast paw feet to the canted angles, 39cm (15.5ins approx.) high; the side pieces each modelled as a campana shaped urn with domed cover and conforming ornithological scenes to the porcelain body flanked by gilt peacock-head cast scroll handles, on swept socle over platform base with leaf and paw cast feet to angles, 32cm (12.5ins) high. Provenance: The beneficiary of the Estate of a private collector, East Midlands. Condition Report: Movement appears complete, original and is in working condition with no visible alterations or significant replacements. The mechanism however is dirty hence a clean and overhaul is required and the hammer needs adjustment so that it strikes clearly on the gong. The dial has some light rubbing to the gilding otherwise is in good condition; the side panels are undamaged. The dome has crazing to the ceramic glaze otherwise appears to be in fine condition. The metal elements of the case are also in fine condition albeit with light rubbing/tarnishing to the high-spots of the gilt mounts. The urn side pieces are in similar condition except for each of the domed covers which are both cracked with some shallow chipping bordering these cracks. Clock has pendulum but no winding key.
