A FRENCH GILT BRASS, GREEN ONYX AND CHAMPLEVE ENAMELLED FOUR-GLASS MANTEL CLOCK RETAILED BY ALDRED AND SON, GREAT YARMOUTH, CIRCA 1880 The circular eight-day gong striking movement with anchor escapement regulated by twin mercury capsule compensated pendulum incorporating polychrome cloisonne enamel decoration and Brocot type regulation to suspension, the backplate stamped with roundel inscribed MEDAILLE D'ARGENT around a laurel leaf motif over serial number 2795 and 4 11, the circular gilt dial with polychrome champleve enamelled rosette to centre within cartouche chapter ring with vertically aligned Arabic numerals and inscribed ALDRED & SON, G'T YARMOUTH to inner edge, the bevel-glazed case with hump-shaped green onyx upstand applied with scroll-shaped panel enamelled with foliate designs within a sky blue ground over repeating leaf complex top mouldings, the front with pin-hinged glazed door flanked by canted angles applied with gilt cherub-cast terms incorporating polychrome enamelled panels to uprights, the sides glazed and rear with further pin-hinged door, on generous skirt base with canted foliate scroll enamel decorated top moulding and leaf cast squab feet. 33.5cm (13.25ins) high, 25cm (9.75ins) wide, 15cm (6ins) deep.
