A GEORGE III GILTWOOD AND MAHOGANY STRIKING EIGHT DAY LONGCASE CLOCK MESCHACH BRITTAN, DEVIZES. LATE 18TH CENTURY The hood with elaborate flower-carved giltwood caps to its swan neck and with eagle cresting, above giltwood fret, fluted columns, with blind fret panels flanking the trunk door, above panelled plinth, teh 12 in. wide brass dial with foliate spandrels to formerly silvered chapter ring with inner concentric date ring (lacking hand), engraved and silvered centre with subsidiary seconds rings, moonphase to the arch with signature above 'MESCHACH BRITTAN DEVIZES', the four pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell; pendulum, two weights, winder, case key 92½ in. (235 cm.) high
