A George III oak and mahogany longcase clock, 33cm arched painted dial inscribed John Halliwell, Wakefield, Arabic numerals, the arch painted with a ... thatched water mill, the spandrels with ruins, subsidiary seconds dial, twin winding holes, eight day movement striking on a bell, the hood with urnular finial swan neck pediment, shaped rectangular door to waist, flanked by ebony mounted quarter columns, outlined throughout with boxwood and ebony stringing, plinth base, 233cm high, c.1810 John Halliwell was b. c. 1751 and apprenticed to Henry Watson of Blackburn, Lancs., in February 1765 to 1772, later crossing then Pennines to set up in Wakefield where he was working until c. 1810 Read more
