A gilt-metal and enamelled necessaire, a carnet-de-bal with a miniature and three various snuff-boxes Apparently unmarked, France, late 18th century, the snuff-boxes 19th Century The oblong case with enamelled panels in red and white on green ground decorated on each side with cupids on clouds, the hinged cover with SOUVENIR fitted with a small hinged knife, an ivory note pad, a pair of scissors, a small mirror, two bodkins and a pencilholder; the tapering mother-of-pearl and gilt-metal carnet-de-bal fitted with a small ivory notebook, one side set with a portrait medallion, the other side with monogram, each in oval frame, the hinged cover with SOUVENIR and D'AMITIE ; the snuff-boxes two oval, one of brown lacquer with inlaid foliate borders, the hinged cover with oval portrait miniature of a young gentleman facing right wearing a white wig and in white and blue military costume, one oval silver snuff-box and a smaller circular tortoise shell box with lift-off cover set with a portrait miniature of a gentleman in brown coat 9.4 cm. long and smaller (5)
