A GOLD-MOUNTED ENAMEL SNUFF-BOX BERLIN, CIRCA 1770, THE MOUNTS LATER Oval box, the cover and base enamelled with pastoral scenes on white ground, inspired by an engraving of Les Jeux de l'Amour after F. Boucher's painting Le But , the cover depicting a nymph with tambourine and censor accompanied by a trumpeter and youths making offerings to the Autumnal harvest deity, the side frieze with nymphs and satyrs celebrating Arcadian life, the base with cloud-borne putti bearing a garland, the interior of the lid enamelled with a scene from Ovid's Metamorphoses of a goddess sporting with Cupid's arrows, reeded mounts, slightly raised incorporated floral thumbpiece set with a yellow gemstone surrounded by table-cut emeralds, rubies and rose-cut diamonds 4 1/8 in. (10.5 cm.) wide
