A grand piano by Broadwood, London, circa 1819 The mahogany panelled case cross-banded with rosewood, raised on four turned baluster legs. The rosewood veneered keywell inlaid with brass floral motifs. The boxwood plaque within a brass rectangle inlaid in the nameboard inscribed: John Broadwood & Sons, Makers to his Majesty & the Princesses, Great Pulteney Street, Golden Square, London. Six octave keyboard CC-c4 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. English grand action, trichord throughout. Divided bridge. Two pedals, mounted on a lyre, the one on the right divided for controlling dampers above and below middle c, and the one on the left for controlling una corda and due corde. Serial number 8074 Length 248cm, width 116cm, case height including lid and leg blocks 36cm. Literature: The Colt Clavier Collection Golden Jubilee 1944-1981, p. 8, (14) G274B.
