A Great War 1918 ‘French theatre’ M.M., and Croix de Guerre group of five awarded to Sergeant W. Barker, 8th and 14th Battalions, Leicestershire Regiment Military Medal, G.V.R. (12068 Sjt: W. Barker. 14/Leic: R.); 1914-15 Star (12068 Pte. W. Barker. Leic: R.); British War and Victory Medals (12068 Sjt. W. Barker. Leic. R.); France, Third Republic, Croix de Guerre, bronze, reverse dated 1914-1918, silver star on riband, mounted for display, dent to obverse centre of last, otherwise nearly extremely fine (5) £400-£500 Footnote M.M. London Gazette 29 March 1919. France, Croix de Guerre, London Gazette 7 January 1919. Wilfred Barker was born in Loughborough in 1896. He served during the Great War with the 8th (Service) Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment in the French theatre of war from 29 July 1915 (Croix de Guerre). Barker subsequently transferred to the 14th (Service) Battalion; with the latter serving in the French theatre of war from 30 July 1918.
