When ordered to burn his dump, he said he would rather wait to the last minute, and remained for three days after under heavy shell fire, and succeeded in getting all ordnance and other stores away. A Motor Driver by occupation, he enlisted on 24 April 1915, aged 38 years. With the A.S.C. he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 31 March 1916 and attained the rank of C.Q.M.S. in July 1917. He was mentioned in Haig’s despatch of 26 December 1917 and in 1918 was awarded the D.C.M. and M.M. Colbran was discharged on 12 June 1919. Sold with copied service papers and other research.
