David Butler was born in Birmingham, Warwickshire, on 30 November 1890, and having emigrated to Canada attested for the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force at Fort Hope on 18 February 1915. He served with the 20th Battalion, Canadian Infantry during the Great War on the Western Front from 3 February 1916, and was promoted Corporal on 28 August 1918, and acting Sergeant on 11 February 1919. He was discharged in England on 28 April 1919. Sold with copied service papers.
