Walker, North Staffordshire Regiment who was killed in action at Gallipoli INDIA GENERAL SERVICE 1895-1902, 1 clasp, Punjab Frontier 1897-98 (Lieut. 1st Bn. North Staff. Reg.); AFRICA GENERAL SERVICE 1902-56, 1 clasp, Lango 1901 (Capt., N. Staff. Regt.); 1914-15 STAR (Major, N. Staff. R.); BRITISH WAR AND VICTORY MEDALS (Lt.Col.) the last three in their original card boxes of issue, some very light contact marks to the first two, otherwise extremely fine and toned (5) Footnote Only 7 clasps were issued to European Officers and N.C.Os, for the punitive expedition into the Lango Country under Major C. Delme-Radcliffe, Connaught Rangers. It is, therefore, the rarest clasp of this series awarded to a European recipient. Francis Hercules Walker served with the 7th Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment in Gallipoli. He was promoted temporary Lieutenant Colonel, commanding the battalion on 8th September, 1915. His battalion was holding a line of trenches between the Western Birdcage and Fusilier Bluff, at places separated from the Turkish trenches by only 10 or 15 yards. Lt. Colonel Walker was killed in the firing line at the start of a furious Turkish attack on the 7th January, 1916.
