Approx. 75 leaves. Mostly ink manuscript, with many small color pictures of flies gleaned from various sources. 28x22.5 cm (11x8¾"), looseleaf binder with thick paper covers. Detailed descriptions of over 500 tied flies, many with color pictures, plus a record of over 700 of Langfeldt's angling outings, the location, lures, time of day, weather, etc. Laid in is Langfeldt's certificate as a Manitoba Master Angler, from 1999, noting he caught a 42 inch northern pike. Extraordinary record kept by master angler Billy P. Langfeldt (1924-2011) of Boulder, Colorado. Langfeldt was born in Lockney, Texas and grew up in La Junta, Colorado. During World War Two he served in the U.S. Navy throughout the Pacific under the command Admiral Chester Nimitz. Following the war Langfeldt attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, completing his BS and MS in Pharmacy. After teaching pharmaceutical chemistry for a time at the University of Arizona, he returned to Boulder where he worked as a pharmacist for many years. Langfeldt's first love however, was fly fishing. As stated in his obituary: "An avid fisherman, Bill could often be found fishing the high lakes and rivers throughout Colorado." Over the course of nearly 50 years, Langfeldt painstakingly compiled an exhaustive chronicle of his Colorado fishing experiences in a bound volume. The record dates from 1956-2000 and contains a handwritten account of author's fishing experiences throughout Colorado. Entries here include a remarkably detailed catalog of fishing lures along with a diary of fishing trips spanning some 44 years. Index of lures contains over 500 different lures indexed alphabetically by name followed by a grid of boxed detailed descriptions. Many lures are embellished with a sketch or picture painstakingly clipped and pasted to the description. Equally impressive is Langfeldt's diary of fishing trips comprising about 725 trips taken in 44 years of fishing various bodies of water throughout Colorado. His diary log contains the year, location, number and type of fish caught, lure that was used (cross-referenced with his lure catalog), phase of the moon, and the time of day. Also bound-in and laid-in are are various printed articles on fly fishing and fly tying along with a master angler certificate author earned in Canada in 1999. An unparalleled original source on Colorado fly fishing
