A large and impressive Continental stein A large and impressive Continental stein, 19th Century, probably South German, of tapering cylindrical form, the hinged lid embossed with flowers, scrolls and masks to the border, central dome with lambs tongue moulding surmounted by a female figure wearing a warriors helmet and holding a shield and staff, winged scrolling thumb piece and female caryatid scroll handle, the main body embossed all over with masks, stylized shells and scrolls, etc, around three panels of allegorical figures including Bacchanalian cherub and classical female harvest gatherer, a band around the base bearing a Latin inscription above a rounded foot rim with repeated lambs tongue moulding, 22" high, base diameter 8 1/2", three impressed marks to rim - crescent on back, crown above the number 13 and date letter, 103.9ozs
