A LARGE CUT AND MOULDED GLASS AND SILVER PLATE FOURTEEN LIGHT CHANDELIER 20TH CENTURY The whole with silver plated mounts, the hobnail cut baluster stem with looped swags, pendant drops, and stylised scrolled shepherd's crooks, with two tiers of spirally turned branches hung with faceted drops and suspending pear shaped lustres approximately 176cm high, excluding chain suspensions, 105cm wide Provenance: Supplied by Oliver Messel Condition Report: Saleroom notice- headline should read; "A LARGE CUT AND MOULDED GLASS AND SILVER PLATE FOURTEEN LIGHT CHANDELIER" The chandelier is not wired for electricity and seems to date from the early part of the 20th century. There are no obvious signs of a maker's mark- but most sections of metalware (arms, arm platform, underside of sconces) are numbered. Overall the chandelier is dirty- with tarnishing to metal surfaces and wear to exposed sections such as tops of nozzles. There seems to have been a liquid drip through the stem resulting in an orange colour deposit visible just above arm platform. One glass nozzle is broken- we have parts of it and the plated fitting together with assorted drops and parts- some of which look to have come from the various swag fittings. 1 rattle shaped drop from the upper tier is broken adn partially present in the loose parts. There are old damages and chips to drops- mostly to suspended larger drops. The swags between the arms are attached with later looking and fairly crudely executed wire tie offs suggesting they may have been replaced or are later associated- however the form and cut looks to be mostly correct. The terminal prismatic drop to the stem has a different colour to other sections suggesting it is a replacement. However, all lots are of an age and type which means that they may not be in perfect condition and should be viewed by prospective bidders; please refer to Condition 6 of the Conditions of Business for Buyers.
