A LARGE IMPERIAL-YELLOW MOLDED GLASS 'CAPARISONED ELEPHANT' BOTTLE1800-1900
Of ovoid outline, the elephant neatly blown with the body tapering towards the feet, and the head turned and looking back to its (real) left side, a tasseled blanket hangs to each side with straps on the hind quarters below a ruyi-cloud lappet collar below the globular cylindrical 'howdah' neck.

For another yellow glass elephant-form bottle dated to between 1760 and 1830, see Hugh Moss, Victor Graham and Ka Bo Tsang, A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles, The Mary and George Bloch Collection, Volume 5, Part 2, pp. 395-396, no. 856, where the authors discuss the rebus for an elephant with a vase on its back, the desire for stability. The bottle form, ping and the elephant, xiang are a sign pf peace, taiping, and represent the saying taiping youxiang, an expression for hope of political stability.
