D .' G .' ANG .' FR .' ET • HIB .' REGI' (m.m.), crowned bust 7D left, rev. (m.m.) SCVTVM • FIDEI • PROTEGET • EAM, crowned square-topped shield dividing E-R, 1.37g [21.2grns], 10h, m.m. small woolpack (HCN 185; Montagu III, 61; Murdoch -; Heath 46 this coin; Ryan 349; Lockett 1998; Broughton 444; Schneider I, 818 same dies; Brown & Comber J16; North 2011; Spink 2537), a slightly oval flan with a hint of die clashing, otherwise truly choice, the central devices wonderfully bold, extremely fine and equally rare, particularly in this beautiful state of preservation Brown and Comber record fifteen instances of this privy mark for denomination [not accounting for duplication] as listed in the Spink Numismatic Circular and Seaby Bulletin between 1937 and 1983. Challis records the mint output for this Pyx Period at £42,739 for Crown Gold.
