A LOUIS XV TWO-COLOUR GOLD SNUFF-BOX BY JEAN-BAPTISTE MARIE (FL. 1769-1788), MARKED, PARIS 1773/74, STRUCK WITH THE CHARGE AND DISCHARGE MARKS OF JULIEN ALATERRE 1768-1774 AND THE COUNTER-MARK OF JEAN-BAPTISTE FOUACHE 1774-1780, THE FLANGE ENGRAVED WITH RETAILER'S NAME 'DU PETIT DUNKERQUE' oval box, the cover, sides and base chased with vertical shallow flutes alternating with coin-pattern bands, the sablé borders chased in green gold with stylised acanthus, the cover and base centred with oval reserves chased with trophies of Music and the Arts, the sides similarly decorated, the front panel reserve engraved ' TURMINE VEUVE DELABROYE 1784 ' 3 1/16 in.
