A LOUIS XVI GOLD FRUIT-KNIFE PARIS, 1783/1784, WITH THE SECOND CHARGE AND DECHARGE MARKS OF HENRY CLAVEL 1782-1789, STRUCK WITH THE PARISIAN THIRD STANDARD MARK FOR GOLD 1798-1809, THE PARISIAN THIRD STANDARD GUARANTEE MARK FOR GOLD 1798-1809 AND LATER STRUCK WITH THE POST-1838 PARISIAN GOLD GUARANTEE MARK FOR SMALL ITEMS of typical form, both sides of handle with panels of peaked engine-turning between beaded borders, each centred with an oval sablé cartouche chased in vari-colour gold with two doves and a basket of fruit respectively, slightly domed cover with rosette, plain polished gold blade 7¼ in.
