A MAGNIFICENT SAFAVID ENGRAVED BRASS BOWL IRAN, LATE 16TH CENTURY Of rounded form with everted mouth and triangle-section rim, the interior engraved with an extremely fine design based around a central roundel containing quatrefoil motif surrounded by bold arabesque with palmette finials and scrolling vine issuing flowerheads, around this two wide bands of continuous cusped and shaped cartouches joined by small palmettes and filled with arabesque, major bands alternated with minor bands of scrolling floral vine or repeating palmettes, the exterior similarly engraved with elaborate arabesque and palmette design within cusped band with palmette finials, good condition 22 7/8in. (55.6cm.) diam.
