The dial signed Societe des Marbres Onix d'Algerie. G Viot et Cie, Paris. The movement signed E.FARCOT A PARIS NO 8/EXPon. 1867; The bronze signed A.CARRIER Surmounted by a female figure in Classical dress, her right arm raised to hold the foliate bud terminating in a universal joint to enable the pendulum to rotate freely, the pendulum with an inner core of white metal and an outer layer of brass terminating in a gilt sphere mounted with cast stars of different magnitudes, her left arm relaxed to the left side and clasping the folds of her dress which is bound by a gilt belt set high above the waist, with gilt-strapped footwear and arm bracelet, signed on the circular base A. CARRIER, set on a gilt band to a bow fronted plinth on a truncated column with reeded side sections and carved horizontal band, mounted below with a bronze of the young Chronos, all on a deeply moulded cornice of good figuring and colour, further supported by a heavy ebonised wooden base, the 11 inch gilt dial with matted chapter ring applied with Roman numerals and diamond shaped minute markers with moon shaped hands within a moulded brass bezel, signed on the inner band of the open centre "Societe des Marbres Onix d'Algerie, G.Viot & Cie., Paris" the partially skeletonised frontplate with symmetrical outline to reveal the twin going barrel movement and contrate wheel in continous motion linked to an arbour that carries the arrow to rotate the pendulum above, the rear and sides of the movement enclosed in screwed dust covers and signed AKDSJFLAKDSJFSADFK 3.1m (10ft 2in) high including the ebonised base.
