Compiled from a great Variety of Original Documents Author: Purdy, John Place: London Publisher: Whittle & Laurie Date: 1821 Description: Engraved map, hand-colored in outline. On four sheets, each approx. 64x81 cm (25¼x21¾"); backed with linen & sectioned for folding, with original marbled boards slipcase with label of James Wyld. Large, detailed and very rare map of much of the settled portions of Canada and adjoining portions of the U.S., with large insets of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick; the banks of the St. Lawrence River; the Frontier of Niagara; the Grand Lakes; Newfoundland; etc. This is the second of seven editions of the map, and undoubtedly the rarest - OCLC/WorldCat lists only the copy at the New York Public Library, and Warren Heckrotte notes that "Ed Dahl says that copy in Canadian Archives and this copy are only located copies of this state."
