A MING MOTHER-OF-PEARL INLAID BLACK LACQUER INCENSE STAND, XIANGJI 15TH/16TH CENTURY The lotus leaf-shaped rectangular top bordered with a raised band encircling the red, black and green criss-cross brocade pattern set with medallions and flowerheads, the high waist with six double-bamboo stem corner struts joined by mother-of-pearl inlaid, hawthorn-pattern panels pierced with ruyi head above the stepped top of the shaped apron with cloud-collar spandrels flanking each of the tall cabriole legs, the curled-over, flower-leaf feet supported on low pads on a conforming base decorated in mother-of-pearl and lacquer with fruiting melon stems within the mother-of-pearl inlaid, interlocking key-fret band, the stand itself on six low, cabriole pad feet--37in. (94cm.) high, 23in. (58.5cm.) wide, 15½in. (39.5cm.) deep
