Title: A New Collection of Voyages, Discoveries and Travels: Containing Whatever is worthy of Notice, in Europe, Asia, Africa and America.... Author: Knox, John Place: London Publisher: J. Knox Date: 1767 Description: 7 volumes. With 47 (of 49) copper-engraved maps and plates, many folding. (8vo) 8x4¾, period calf, spines gilt. Travels throughout the old world and the new, including Columbus, Anson, Dampier and many others. In discussing the Dutch treatment of English prisoners in the East Indies, a procedure much akin to waterboarding is described, and pictured. It is referred to as a method of torture. Lot Amendments Condition: Covers worn, joints cracked or tender, a few spines with vertical splits but threads holding, several spine labels missing, others worn, front cover of Vol. I detached; lower portion of map of southern part of South America neatly torn off but present, plan of Paris with 8" tear, plan of London with 6" tear, lacking 2 plates/maps, bookplates of John Waldie, good condition internally sold as is.
