A pair of cased stainless steel Ulysse Nardin Chrono stopwatches, c.1936, purchased by Prince Chula of Siam and presented to his cousin Prince Bira on the occasion of his 21st birthday. 17610 Split - Chronograph rattrapante with counter for hours, and minutes. Certificate of origin, Bulletin for 1936, Bulletin for 1940, Bulletin for 1947. 17794 Split - Chronograph rattrapante with counter for minutes. Certificate of origin, Bulletin for 1936, Bulletin for 1939, Bulletin for 1947. (Note:, the watches were always sent for testing at the end of the year, after the motor racing season was finished). The Bulletins for 1939/1940 are dated December and January. Watches in original Ulysse Nardin box with a canvas waterproof cover. The, cover has a burn mark caused by a hot spark plug being put on it (see below). Accompanied by a letter written on behalf of the family (Shura) to the buyer of the chronographs, owner of the car, in 1985, acknowledging receipt of the money and, mentioning the Prince and the reason for the burn on the canvas cover. Wooden case 220 x 151 x 55mm. Each stopwatch 63mm diameter (2) Prince Chula Chakrabongse of Siam ran a famous motor racing team know as White Mouse Racing, with the main, driver being Prince Bira, his cousin. The watches were used for timing the race cars which included a string of serious machinery - the famous ERA's called Romulus and Remus and a Maserati 250F. These cars survive to this day. After they retired, from racing, the cars were sold and the watches were also sold (later) to the new own of Romulus.
