Walt Disney Studios, 1938. Gouache on celluloid, multi-cel setup, with partial paper overlay, applied to a Courvoisier airbrushed background, with "Ferdinand and His Mother" handwritten in pencil at lower left of mat, depicting Ferdinand as the center of his mother's attention. Together with: Gouache on celluloid, with partial paper overlay, applied to a Courvoisier airbrushed background, with "Ferdinand" handwritten in pencil at lower left of mat, depicting Ferdinand mesmerized by a butterfly. Both Ferdinand and the butterfly are trimmed from full piece of celluloid, and the butterfly is detached. Both pieces are matted and have the original stickers on the back inscribed, "This is an original painting on celluloid from the Walt Disney Studios, actually used in the filming of 'The Story of Ferdinand.' Only a very limited number have been selected to be placed on the market. / Walt Disney " Also on the back is printed, "Copyright 1938 / Walt Disney Productions." This is a sweet story about a bull who loves flowers more than fighting but whose behavior while fleeing a bee is mistaken for aggression. It won the 1939 Academy Award® in the category of "Best Short Subject, Cartoons." Ferdinand with mother: overall: 17.25 x 18 in.; within mat: 8 x 9.75 in.; Ferdinand with butterfly: overall: 14 x 15 in.; within mat: 6.75 x 7 in.
