A pair of Edwardian sterling silver replica of the Holms Cup bowls, Chester 1906 by Nathan and Hayes Each after the Henry VIII original flat or ‘font’ cup. Of everted circular form upon a trumpet foot with embossed decoration. The sides with chased decoration of scale form below a latin inscription in Lombardic letters "Benedictus deus im dona suis ame". Each fully marked underneath. (2) Height – 10.1 cm / 4 inches Diameter – 12 cm / 4.75 inches Weight – 672 grams / 21.61 ozt Commonly referred to as "The Tudor Cup", which became famous when it was sold as part of the Dunn-Gardner collection at Christies auction in 1901 for £4100, the highest price ever paid for a piece of silver at that time. The original cup is also known as the Holms cup, named after a previous owner, and is now part of the collection of the Royal Scottish Museum, who purchased it in 1958 for £9500.
