A PAIR OF GEORGE III ORMOLU-MOUNTED SATINWOOD, HAREWOOD, KINGWOOD AND MARQUETRY SEMI-ELLIPTICAL COMMODES attributed to Mayhew & Ince , each top inlaid with a radiating floral patera within an entrelac, anthemion and drapery-swagged border upon a satinwood ground elaborately inlaid with ribbon-tied interwoven trailing convolvuli within a further stylized anthemion and bell-husk outer border bound with a foliate ormolu collar, the deep frieze incorporating a central mahogany-lined frieze drawer inlaid with ribbon-tied husk garlands and domed anthemion clasps, above a reeded ormolu border, the central bow-fronted door with an oval painted medallion, one depicting David Garrick torn between Tragedy and Comedy after Sir Joshua Reynolds the other depicting The Three Graces and Cupid in the manner of Angelica Kauffmann within a beaded ormolu border within an entrelac frame and suspended from a central ribbon-tie flanked by roses, convolvuli and further ribbon-tied trailing foliage to the angles, enclosing a mahogany-lined interior with one shelf, crossbanded overall with kingwood, between pilaster strips inlaid with stylized anthemion and laurel sprays, surmounted by ram's head capitals suspending classical drapery and incorporating a domed floral patera, the flanking doors centred by ram's-headed anthemia supporting an antique vase, flanked by scrolling foliate arabesques and adorned with husk and ribbon-tied garlands and terminated by oval painted medallions depicting the muses, the Annunciation and a pair of portrait medallions of a husband and wife in the manner of John Downman upon a stiff-leaf and beaded ormolu plinth, on a later George IV kingwood shaped base with central beading between trailing ivy and acanthus mounts on tapering feet mounted with domed floral patera, minor differences in construction The Garrick commode 78¼in.
