A PAIR OF MINTONS POLYCHROME PÂTE-SUR-PÂTE TWO-HANDLED OVIFORM VASES by Louis Marc Solon , the bodies decorated in white slip on dark-brown grounds with pairs of scantily draped maidens holding Cupid's hands before arbours entwined with foliage and with trailing ribbon, the reverses with putti in flight before a tree and asleep on rockwork beneath drapery, the sides with putti playing musical instruments, holding whips and in flight above a pâte-sur-pâte band enriched with gilding, the necks decorated in coloured slips enriched in gilding with sprays of Arum-lilies and with swirling whiplash bands around the terminals of the handles, beneath borders of daisy-heads and gilt key-pattern, the waisted stems with a frieze of daisy-heads, above a band of white bell-flowers, on square bases enriched with gilt lines, signed L Solon , impressed marks and 1946 and 1722, circa 1890 21½in.
