A PAIR OF PORCELAIN COVERED POT-POURRI VASES by the Imperial Porcelain Factory, St Petersburg, period of Nicholas I Of bulbous shape, each painted with a marine scene on one side, one with a ship and a fortress, the other with ships on stormy waters, and a bouquet of finely painted flowers on the other, both within a circular reserve with ciselé and scroll border, the white bodies decorated thoughout with gilt foliate scrolls, on moulded bases of stylised acanthus leaves and scrolls, two twisted handles, flared necks with shaped rims and pierced domed covers with stylised acanthus finials, marked under bases with blue underglaze crowned Cyrillic cypher 'NI' each 13¾ in. (35 cm.) high (2)
