A PAIR OF SANCAI GLAZED EQUESTRIAN-FORM ROOF TILES, MING DYNASTY Katalognummer: CA0917-090 Ceramic with Sancai glaze China later Ming Dynasty, 16th/17th century This corresponding pair of figural ceramic roof tiles shows a warrior on horseback each. The soldiers with turned heads to the beholder, the horses with vivid facial expressions and in motion. Sancai (translated: ‘three colors’) is a leadglazing technique, usually consisting of three different colors, which developed in China during the Tang Dynasty (618- 907).
