TAISHO PERIOD (EARLY 20TH CENTURY), SIGNED SHUNTO AND SEALED KATAOKA SHUNTO
A patinated bronze ornament ( okimono ) Taisho period (early 20th century), signed Shunto and sealed Kataoka Shunto Finely cast and patinated with incised details as Urashima Taro sitting on the back of a minogame (an auspicious turtle trailing seaweed), holding a fishing rod and casket, the top of the turtle's shell and Urashima Taro lifting off to reveal a detachable compartment lined with silver, signature on reverse side of the lid 10¼in. (26cm.) long With original wood box titled Urashima Taro no zo on the lid and inscribed Ryoheika yori gokicho ni tsuki gosandai no setsu gohairyo Kakuin (given by the Emperor and the Empress to a Kakuin upon the person's return to Japan from abroad) on the underside of the lid and affixed with paper label dated Taisho 14 (1925)
