A POLYCHROME LACQUER PAPIER MACHÉ QALAMDAN SIGNED HAYDAR 'ALI, QAJAR IRAN, DATED AH 1294/1877-78 AD With rounded ends and sliding tray, the surfaces densely decorated with a series of alternating small and large cartouches formed of gold leafy swags containing figural compositions including enthronment scenes and bust portraits, the underside depicting a ruler entertained by women, the sides and underside of the sliding tray similarly decorated with indented cartouches depicting religious figures, all of the illustrations with identification inscriptions, the interior of the tray with a more sparse design of people on horseback against a gold landscape, the underside signed raqam-e kamtarin Haydar 'Ali 1294 9 1/8in. (23cm.) long
