Date: [1860] Description: 44 pp. Illustrated with woodcuts by the author throughout. (8vo), original illustrated wrappers. First Edition. Very scarce Cruikshank title with woodcut illustrations throughout. In A Pop-gun, Cruikshank recalls his first participation in a volunteer militia at age 11. When Napoleon Bonaparte (1769–1821) declared war on Britain in 1803, George Cruikshank’s father Isaac joined a volunteer troop while George and his brother drilled with toy weapons. Rarely seen in the original wrappers. Lot Amendments Condition: Light soiling and edge wear to wrappers, darkening to edges, some loss at spine ends, 1" closed tear to rear wrap; toning to interior; very good. Item number: 287075
