A RARE AND COMPLETE SAMURAI ARMOR WITH KABUTO Catalog Number: AB0319-0314 Iron, leather, lacquer, silk, gilding Japan, Edo period A rare and impressive complete samurai armor including the helmet, or kabuto, with open tehen no kanamono and five-part lacquered iron plates shikoro with sugake odoshi. The very impressive mounting lacquered in gold and the front piece in the form of a ferocious oni mask, the horns shaped like a half-crescent moon. The facemask hanbo and made of iron with four lame yodare-kake (throat guards). The ribbed black chest protector is a do-maru, which can be opened on the side. The shoulder pads sode are crafted of seven strips connected by leather bands – the bottom piece is gilded. On the do (breastplate) hangs a safeguard hai-date, in six parts, each made of 5 strips hung on long leather bands. The lowest rib is also respectively gilded, so that the encircling end of safeguard is golden. With handguards, thigh coverings and shinguards. With a wood box. Dimensions: Height approx. 170 CM Condition: This set of armor is almost entirely complete (except for the stirrups=, with signs of aging appropriate for its age and use, especially tears to fabric and wear to lacquer Provenance: From a Hungarian private collection
