A Rare British Royal Horse Guards Officer's Basket-Hilted Sword Circa 1750-80 With straight single-edged blade double-edged towards the point, the wide central fuller on each face stamped 'Andrea Ferara' between orb and cross marks, iron hilt comprising two assymetrical fan-like fluted upturned shells pierced with slots and carrying outer and central knuckle-guards flanked by scrolls, single rear scrolled quillon, lion-head pommel, and original wooden shagreen-covered wire-bound grip (the hilt damaged and incorrectly repaired, and with later colouring) 33in. (84.4cm.) blade Cf. a similar sword sold at Christie's, 27 March 1996, Lot 194, and another in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle (No. 775) which is documented as having been made for the 1st Troop of Royal Horse Guards.
