A RARE GILT-METAL-MOUNTED CARVED RED LACQUER 'TREASURE CHEST' ON STAND
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
A RARE GILT-METAL-MOUNTED CARVED RED LACQUER 'TREASURE CHEST' ON STAND QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795) Of faceted rectangular form, made in imitation of a ribbon-bound gift, the removable octagonal front divided into quadrants by metal straps issuing from a ring encircling the central locking device carved with a shou character, each quadrant carved with a ribbon-tied chime suspending twin fish amidst flower scroll, repeated on the sides and the removable panel on the reverse, the top carved with four bats surrounding hibiscus scroll and set with two gilt-metal 'knotted ribbon' carrying handles, the front and back with an outer 'frame' painted with wan diaper on a black ground, with entwined rings carved at each corner and a narrow drawer at the top and bottom on the front, the interior with six drawers carved with cell diaper surrounding a central square recess framed in gilt metal, raised on a separate carved red lacquer stand with ruyi -head supports 14¼ in. (36.1 cm.) high with stand, 14¾ in. (37.5 cm.) wide, 6 1/8 in. (15.5 cm.) deep
