A rare Kelat-I-Ghilzie pair awarded to Lieutenant R.A. Trotter, 43rd Bengal Infantry GHUZNEE, CABUL 1842 (Lieut. 43rd Regt. Bengall Lt. Infy.); DEFENCE OF KELAT-IGHILZIE 1842 (Lieut. 43rd Reg. Bengal Lt. Infy.) both medals named in contemporary cross hatched capital letters and fitted with silver brooches and ribbon buckles, contained in a contemporary fitted case, some tooling to both medals, otherwise nearly extremely fine and very rare (2) Footnote Lieutenant Colonel R.A. Trotter was born in Calcutta 13th February, 1814, and educated at Edinburgh Academy, 1824-30. He was posted briefly to the 56th and 27th regiments of Native Infantry before transferring to the 43rd N.I. on 28th January, 1834. He served with the regiment throughout the Afghan War, at the reoccupation of Kelat 1840, defence of Kelat-I-Ghilzie 1841-2, and the capture of Istaliff. He served also in the Gwalior campaign and was present at the battle of Maharajpoor. A second group is known to this recipient with, in addition, the Maharajpoor star. This group also has similar silver brooches and ribbon buckles and is contained in a similar contemporary case. The unquestionable contemporary nature of both groups would suggest that the recipient was genuinely in possession of two sets of medals.
