A Rare Stainless Steel Ref. 6239/6262 "Paul Newman" Daytona Cosmograph Wristwatch, Rolex, Circa 1968, 36.00 mm case diameter, bicolor ivory dial signed ROLEX COSMOGRAPH DAYTONA, silvered block numerals, silvered luminous baton hands with center chronograph seconds hand, black subdials at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock for chronograph minutes, chronograph hours and small seconds respectively, subdials with characteristic "exotic" crosshairs detail, engraved tachometer bezel calibrated to 200 units, brushed and polished case, screw down crown with embossed Rolex emblem, screw on case back, Cal. 727 manual wind 17 jewel movement with three adjustments signed ROLEX, flexible steel Oyster link bracelet, deployant clasp. Inner case back stamp: 6239. Serial Number: 2529010. Accompanied by an original Rolex case, booklet and certificate of authenticity. Note: It is in the specialist's opinion, upon examination, that the present lot is offered in unpolished condition in its original finish. The watch winds, sets and runs but has not been timed for accuracy. The chronograph runs and resets to zero. The original crystal has noticeable superficial scratches and scuffs. The dial shows no appreciable wear, spotting or discoloration at 10X magnification, the luminous applications show very slight yellowing but are fully intact and glow brightly. The luminous application in the hands shows no appreciable loss or discoloration, glows brightly, the minutes hand shows two minute indentations towards the outer end at 10X magnification, the hour hand shows no appreciable wear at 10X magnification, the chronograph seconds hand shows no appreciable wear at 10X magnification and the applied white on the arrow terminal shows no loss or wear. The bezel shows minor wear (scratches and scuffs), the black graduations show very minimal loss of color concentrated in the "per" section of Units per Hour. The case, case back and bracelet show minor/moderate wear consisting of even superficial scratches and scattered more noticeable marks (outer lug above the top chronograph pusher, outer edge of the bezel). The expandable bracelet has excellent flex, the clasp closes to a moderately tight degree. NOTES: The case back was opened to examine the caliber details and condition, no evidence of rust or moisture were observed. In opening the case, the case back gasket was intact but a replacement is recommended at the buyer's expense.
