A REGENCY MAHOGANY TWO-DAY MARINE CHRONOMETER Charles Young, No. 136, circa 1815 The silvered dial signed (No. 136) CHARLES YOUNG LONDON , Roman hour numerals within outer mintues dial with Arabic five-minute intermarkers 60-5-10 et seque , recessed seconds dial, blued steel hands, brass drum dust cover to pinned frame, Arnold escapement, cut bimetallic Pennington style balance with peripheral screws, underspring flat spiral blued steel balance spring the outer coil pinned to resilient stud of spring detent format, Arnold spring detent with jewelled locking stone its spring with rectangular hollow centre and two steel steady pins, brass bowl, gimballed in plain three-tier mahogany box, the lid with printed instructions on handling a chronometer, the middle section with trade label of JOHN PARKES & SONS LIVERPOOL , external brass drop handles 75 mm. dial diam., 150 mm. sq. box
