It was believed to have been first sited by Dutch sailors in 1598, following years of predation and habitat loss the last widely accepted sighting of a dodo was in 1662. About a dozen complete skeletons are known to exist and all are in museum collections. Condition Report: Back right side of the body broken off and missing.
