A ROMANO-EGYPTIAN GESSO-PAINTED WOODEN FUNERARY PORTRAIT CIRCA 2ND CENTURY A.D. Of a draped female with traces of jewellery around her neck, restored, part only, 7¼ in. (43.8 cm.) high; another funerary portrait depicting a young woman with traces of a foliate wreath in her swept back hair, wearing a chain necklace, repainting on face and lips, circa 2nd Century A.D., 19¼ in. (49.2 c.m) high; a Roman fragmentary gesso-painted plaster fragment, side A: on black background, crested crane walking between two fruit trees one bearing oranges(?), side B: garland frieze of laurel leaves with painted red and black berries, between yellow and blue black striped borders, 1st Century A.D., 6 x 3¾ in. (15.2 x 9.5 cm.); a painted fresco fragment with the head of a saint, facing three-quarters, wearing red and black bordered head band, surrounded by a nimbus, in wooden frame, early Christian period, 5½ x 4 in. (14 x 10.2 cm.); and a gesso painted linen funerary fragment, mounted, 1st millennium B.C./A.D., 8¼ x 5¾ in. (21 x 14.6 cm.) approx. (5)
