Serial no. 13622 for 1874, .45 caliber. 5 1/8 inch barrel with custom period fore-sight. Nickel-plated finish. Frame A inspection stamp of O.W. Ainsworth. Left side of triggerguard with C stamp for condemned. Elephant ivory grips. Together with later red baize-lined English oak case. Included is a Colt factory letter detailing sale to B. Kittredge of Cincinnati, Ohio and shipment on June 24, 1876 to Schuyler, Hartley & Graham of New York, number of guns in shipment 50. Also included is a letter from noted single action expert John A. Kopec, noting that this revolver was "pulled" from U.S. Government production because of some minor imperfection in the gauging standard. It was partially ordnance sub-inspected by O.W. Ainsworth during 1874. He also gives the opinion that although the finish is listed as blue on the Colt factory records, he feels that the nickel is original. Condition: Barrel and frame retain perhaps 50-60% nickel plating, the balance of the gun showing scattered light pitting. Barrel shortened, the sight replaced. Hammer replaced. Grips with nice patina, age barking and are probably period replacements. See Illustration
