Forging pattern ( jihada ): strong wood grain ( itame ). Tempering pattern ( hamon ): large, shallow, clove patterns ( o-choji ) in nioi . Point ( boshi ): midare-komi with brushed tip ( hakikake ). Tang ( nakago ). Shape ( keitai ): long (23.2 cm.), slightly curving, ubu and with a dry, brown patina; notches have probably been moved up ( machi-okuri ) approximately 2 cm.; file marks ( yasurime ): sloping ( sujikai ); end ( nakagojiri ): iri-yamagata ; holes ( mekugi-ana ): two; signature ( katanamei ): Sukenao .
