The Nazi officer Colonel Dietrich, whose goal it is to bring the Ark to Berlin, is an important side character in the first Indiana Jones movie, where he is flanked by the French archaeologist and opportunist Belloq (Paul Freeman and the Gestapo man Toht (Ronald Lacey) in a mutual desire for the divine forces said to be contained in the Ark. This desire eventually costs all three men their lives.
