A SIX PIECE SILVER TEA AND COFFEE SERVICE, maker's mark of Gorham, 1886, in the Persian taste, comprising tea kettle, stand and later lamp (the lamp marked STERLING), teapot, coffee pot with cylindrical neck, two handled covered sugar bowl, cream jug and waste bowl, each compressed circular, on short skirt foot, the underside of the base monogrammed, the lower body chased with plain and beaded flutes, above with broad continuous frieze of stylized flowers, floral clusters and scrolls, interrupted by undulating band of similar and geometric motifs, the shoulder with dentilated band, with similar everted collar, with decorated scroll handle, the hinged partly domed cover quarterly with floral cluster demi lunes, divided by swirlling scrolls, the dome with "drapery" overlapping basketweave, with fluted baluster finial, the pots with decorated spout, the tea kettle with plain overhead fixed handle, the circular base on four bun feet, plain burner, with two part openwork supports, all with slightly differing conforming decoration-- tea kettle on stand over handle 13½in. (34.2cm.) high, gross weight 154oz. (6)
